Hero Leaderboard FAQs
How does the Hero Leaderboard work? Once your contribution is received, your Green Points are added to the Hero Leaderboard. Every $100 contributed earns 1 Green Point, and Heroes are ranked according to their total Green Points. Badges you earn by helping slay Methane Monsters will also appear beside your name. The Hero Leaderboard is updated manually, so there may be a delay between your contribution or achievement and seeing it appear on the Leaderboard.
What happens after I help slay a Monster? We celebrate! After the methane reduction is independently verified, a Badge for that Methane Monster is added beside the names of the Heroes who helped fund the project. The Heroes who contributed to the project will be notified by email when verification is complete and it's time to propose and vote on a name for the Monster they helped slay. Project results are publicly reported so Heroes can see the real-world impact they helped achieve.
What are Green Points and how do I earn them? Green Points show your financial contribution to the Quest and determine your place on the Hero Leaderboard. You earn 1 Green Point for every $100 you contribute toward slaying Methane Monsters. The more Green Points you earn, the higher you can rise on the Leaderboard. $100 = 1 GP $500 = 5 GP $1,000 = 10 GP $5,000 = 50 GP $10,000 = 100 GP $50,000 = 500 GP
Do I have to join a team or can I slay a Methane Monster by myself? Hero, you can absolutely go it alone! Most contributions are pooled with those of other Heroes to help fund methane reduction projects. But if you contribute enough to fund an entire project yourself, you slay that Monster solo. You alone earn its Badge on the Hero Leaderboard and get to name the Monster you conquered. Teams can also join forces to fund an entire methane reduction project.
Can I contribute toward a specific methane reduction project? Most Hero contributions are pooled to help fund MMQ methane reduction projects rather than being assigned to a specific Monster. However, a Hero or team may choose to fund an entire methane reduction project. In that case, the Hero or team slays that Monster, earns its Badge and gets to name the Monster they conquered.
Are the wells real? Absolutely. Every Methane Monster represents an actual leaking oil or gas well in Canada. The Monsters may be fun, but the methane leaks — and the work to stop them — are real.
